Was It Really Needed?

I will preface this post with a warning that I will be discussing spoilers for the latest Sanctuary episode "Monsoon". Don't read on if you wish to remain spoiler free, though the plot is not really my concern here, rather I would like to discuss a few of the more unsavoury fan reactions to the episode.

Ah dear majorsal....she's a HUGE Amanda Tapping fangirl but most importantly the BIGGEST Sam/Jack shipper from SG-1 ever...she is STILL going on about getting her "Confirmation" from TPTB at every given opportunity...she causes many upsets in the fandom with her imho very blinkered views on how "romance" should be conducted on TV....

Thus...this does NOT surprise me in the least....*sighs*...she has been commenting on this and her "fears" over the past few weeks on Gateworld.....she won't change I'm afraid and I expect will be demanding Sam/Jack "confirmation" forever...

We haven't had S.4 yet and as it's not my favourite show, I'll be waiting till it airs on cable over here to see it properly...but good on them for doing this..

Hers was just the most prominent as it was retweeted by the official Sanctuary twitter account, but I was also following the tag while the ep was airing in the US and there were a number of negative comments (funnily enough, I did not notice any from shippers who have OTPs within the fandom Helen/Will, Helen/Tesla etc).

Jack/Sam confirmation? I thought RDA settled that! *snerk*

It can be a risk, but I trusted the Sanctuary guys and gals to handle it and they did a fantastic job! Homosexuality is nothing new and its portrayal in the media is minute because there aren't a lot of shows like Sanctuary willing to portray these relationships and portray them well.

As I mentioned above both Xena and Star Trek did this 15 years ago! There are probably more shows, I don't watch *a lot* of TV. :P

I grew up with it just being a non issue and never really assumed tv characters were gay or straight. We're all slippin' and sliding on the Kinsey scale. Lube? *g*

Very pretty indeed. Amanda Tapping is one hot babe. I don't watch the show but is she British in it? I always find it weird when I hear an actor/actress using a different accent to what I'm use to but I believe she was born here in the UK originally right?

Well her family are from Bermondsey, South London and she can do a great Cockney one....her Helen one is verging on the slightly-too-stiff-upper-lip but it seems to work ok...

I thought she was from Essex?

She has said the accent is not meant to be a perfect replica of an English accent as Helen has not lived there for many many many years and thus her accent would change with time. (Though there is no excuse for hers and Robin's horrid attempts at an Australian accent this past weekend at Armageddon *g*)

She once told me at Vancon - I think it was 2006 at the Sunday Brunch, that when she used to say she was from Essex her Dad used to tell her off by saying "Mandy, we're from Bermondsey!!"...*snort*....trust me it's a "real" London area....Essex and some outskirts of Kent are where a lot of London families went to escape poor housing and bad conditions after the war...
