Countdown

The transport vehicle rocks back and forth and the sounds of rattling chains fill the air. The clinking attracts the attention of the guard next to Colby and he tries to mask his face, not wanting to let on that something was about to happen.

Resting warm against his skin, hidden away until the right time, the tiny silver key is the only thing going through his mind.

Colby waits, preparing himself. He knows what is about to happen.

Three…Two…One…

…Boom.

Colby springs into action, grabbing Dwayne from the floor.

The door is pushed open and freedom greets his eyes.

Uncertainty

The cell phone is heavy in his hand. Colby finds this to be ironic considering it really is a flimsy thing that he could snap in two very easily. It’s heavy with guilt and a whole list of other emotions that he doesn’t want to think about right now.

Colby needs help. He needs his team to listen to him. Somehow he has to tell them about his contact.

But who to call? Don? Megan? David?

And then the name is clear to him, as if he should have known it all along.

Charlie’s numbers come easily to his fingers.

Reckless

Dwayne is right by his side, both running at top speed. As well as they can considering that they have been locked up for days and days. Days that had started to all run together until time ceased to exist all together in that jail cell.

Colby hears the sound of pounding feet behind him and he knows who they belong to. Dwayne leaps and Colby leaps into the metro track.

Colby doesn’t know what to do. Does Don trust him now…?

He sees the rise of the Glock.

The metro train is coming and when it passes, Colby’s gone.

Sweat

He’s hot. It’s worse than the time he had that fever. Only this time his mother’s soothing voice and hands aren’t there to make everything better.

Colby’s mind is a drug induced haze.

He can’t remember anything except that he absolutely cannot tell Lancer.

He can’t think of anything except that he is hot.

The last needle comes with the voices and he’s beyond even caring anymore, about the pain or who it is that has come to his rescue.

Shots ring out, reverberating around the cabin.

One finds him and Colby falls, welcoming the cool blackness that beckons him.
