Too Damn Close

So apparently today a house in my hometown blew up. A backhoe accidentally cut a natural gas line, and they had been evacuating the neighborhood for a couple of hours before the house exploded. This would be a sad story in any case, but it's literally across the street from the house one of my friends grew up in, and no more than two blocks from ( Read more... )

exploding houses, anyone?

Same thing happened one town over from us (ATTLEBORO)the year we moved into our house...like two months later. Same thing, they were doing construction on the house and accidentaly hit a gas line. Two gas workers were killed. Ironically, they had checked out the plans, but not thoroughly enough IIRC. Was so sad....

And, as for bridges falling down, we (BOSTON) spent a gazillion dollars on the Big Dig, only to have the ceiling cave in and kill a woman who just happened to be driving under the massive piece of concrete as it flew off.

Shit happens. It's sad, and terrible and I don't wanna hear about it especially if it happens to someone close to me and it is terrible and all.. but it happens. We just have to pray that it won't happen too often, and luckily, like your example, where no one gets hurt.

It always seems much scarier if it happens in a place you're familiar with. It could have been a lot worse.

Shit, that is too close! Shame on the excavator who didn't check for power lines, or the power company for not marking them properly. You can be sure they'll point fingers at each other for years to come during the sure to be filed law suits.

Anyway, it's great to hear from you! Hope all is well with you and yours.

It's creepy to see the pictures and all that's left is a hole where the house was.

*shudders*

I'm okay. Been lurking a bit, but mostly spending my time trying to reconstruct a whole year's worth of financial records that I lost when my computer died. Kinda boring, and not worth posting about.

Yeah, it could have been a lot worse.

August 1, 2007, the interstate 35W bridge over the Mississippi River in Minneapolis collapsed during rush hour, killing 13 people and injuring about 150. Talk about unnerving...
