I think it definitely exists. You just can NOT put that amount of carbon waste into the Earth's atmosphere and have it go no where. Depletion of the ozone, deforestation, water distribution = all very real problems.
The people that think this is a hoax or made up story by people with an agenda - wat!?!? What agenda would that be, again? Sorry, the Energy and wood/logging companies have FAR more of an investment into the status quo - hate to be the one to break it to you, they are the ones ALREADY rolling in our cash and they are the ones that ultimately ALREADY control the government/politicians and the general population.
That said, I also think we are FAR beyond being able to do anything about it. The only thing that's going to truly help or change us at this point is a complete collapse of the system... and it IS going to happen... it'll probably happen when energy costs are too prohibitive for the general population or when we're literally choking on out own air and water. Glad I'll likely never live to see that.
I think global warming is happening. I can deal with extra taxes to help make things better if necessary.
Found an interesting chart on the average Philadelphia annual temperature from 1870 to 1999 - you can see its going up, though whether it'll go back down, I don't know. http://www.fi.edu/weather/data2/images/wthrmean.jpg
We pay taxes on so many unnecessary things. Wouldn't it be nice to know that at least with the carbon tax we are helping improve our world. We are all neighbors and need to look out for the entire planet, not just our own corner of the world. As far as what you read; be careful what you believe. Listen to the groups who have no money to gain, not the politicians. Just those who understand that Global Warming is here and very real and we must do something, rather than nothing. If ever in doubt, choose the humanitarian and environmental angle.

In particular, lies #2 and #3. You might just open your eyes a little.
