New Tattoo?

Jun 19, 2007 19:33

OK Ya'll... I have been craving a new tattoo for a very long time and I think it is time to research and find myself a good artist. What I am looking for is someone who is familiar with blending previous work with new work, someone who can create something 100% original, and someone who is extremely talented at color work. Basically it's a big ( Read more... )

If you look at my icon that will be my new one, hopefully with in a week. I am going to go to http://www.vyvyn.com/ in Seattle. I have been in her shop before and love her work.

Her online prtfolio looks great. I just hate that I have to put a non-refundable deposit down just for a consultation. How am I supposed to know if they are a "right fit" for me without losing $60?

Someone told me Gypsy Jill was good in Bellevue? www.gypsyjill.com

I have the luxury of walking in first and asking question before scheduling since they are just up the street from work. I'm just hoping they will do the design I have, if not I will get someone else. My friend cd_poe did for me.

I've had my dragon backpiece done at 56th st tattoo here in tacoma, ask for Darren. He's the owner, does wonderful work and is fully capable of taking your words and making them into your drawing. I also know for a fact that he is good at blending, he's been covering one of suzann's with a new one, and it looks spectacular. First time I went in for work, he looked up before he started (over my shoulder) and bowed to my dragon guides before he started. Way cool...check him out.

We all think that I need a dragon on the other shoulder to balance out the size and color of my phoenix. I want something that will give me strength and wisdom so I can make it through this deployment and the upcoming HUGE changes for us as a family (he is applying to PA school so that means transitioning from enlisted to offier and moving to TX for 2 years.... *ugh*). Whatever I decide on it is going to be in the blues, purples, and greens since I have all the reds and yellows on the other side.

Whatever I decide on it needs to NOT cover the smaller tattoo I already have on my shoulder blade, wrap around it or something...

Thanks for the advice, it will definitly help some of my readers. :-) All the things you have mentioned are the first things I look for in a shop. That is why I am asking for advice on good or bad shops so I can go and check them out for myself as well. So far I have gone into several shops in Lakewood, Tacoma, Oly, and Seattle that pretty much scared the hell out of me for some of the reasons mentioned above. That is why I split and never looked back. LOL ( ... )

I agree - Madame Lazonga, as she's known in Seattle, is THE premier tattoo artist!!!
HOWEVER..there are a few other places, too! (I hope they're still around - remember, I was there about 10 years ago!)
One up on Capital Hill is called "Slave to the Needle". They have an EXCELLENT rep, from what I remember. Also, up on NW 85th St, near Ballard, is a place (or used to be!) called "Paradise Lost Tattoos". They were the ones who originally did my Green Man and Sun God tattoos.
Good luck!!!!
