[The infirmary is just as festively decorated as the rest of the school and common rooms. Anyone familiar with the Elric brother knows that the older of the two boys has been unconscious ever since the Dementor attack late last month. Every day around the same time (about an hour after dinner), he arrives to spend some time besides Edward's bed

[Konoe hasn't been awake long himself, still buried underneath his quilt when he shows up. In truth he'd been asleep for days, though it hasn't quite caught up with him yet.]

Gryffindor got gifts from home? Wonder if we did....

[He'd heard a bit about this Christmas thing, but he could have sworn it wasn't celebrated this early.... He decides to levitate his commuter as he sits up, setting his confusion aside to smile a little.]

You wouldn't cut your hair yourself, Alphonse?

Everyone seemed to have something under the tree. Even Ed...

[He actually brightens to see Konoe awake, especially considering up until recently the ribka's been asleep in the infirmary a few beds away from his brother.]

Madam Pomfrey mentioned you woke up a few days ago... [There is a brief pause, as he glances to his brother.] ... I'm glad.

[Focusing back on the question at hand he shakes his head.]

I suppose I could cut my pony tail, but the rest ... I'd probably just ruin it. A friend always helped me take care of it.

[He rubs at an eye with the heel of his palm as he listens, and he doesn't miss Al's beat of silence. Quiet at first, he's known what brothers mean to each other, even without any siblings of his own.]

He'll be up, too, Alphonse....

[Then he's a little louder, light.]

I'd offer but...

[He feels free not to explain further, shrugging with an apologetic frown.]

There's got to be someone around who would do a good job.

[He falls silent at Konoe's words of assurance, the other boy is not the first person to tell him such. His other friends, Madam Pomfrey, even Professor Mcgongall could not pass up the chance to assure the younger Elric that Edward would wake up. More recently, he's had the firm hand of another relative to help curb his worrisome thoughts, but his mind is occupied with so many conflicting emotions on the matter that it's hard. Edward was his brother, and after only a month together they were apart again. It wasn't fair. Swallowing the lump that built in his throat he offers Konoe a silent nod. When he starts to speak, his voice cracks and he's forced to clear his throat before he continues.]

You - your arm. I know. It's okay.

[ he gives a nervous smile and points to his birds nest that he calls hair...]

[The nervous smile earns a soft laugh.]

Do you cut your own? I've never tired really... one of my friends from back home used to do it for me. When I left I just let it grow out.

Well, I don't know about cutting, my mom usually helps me, but I've messed with my hair to try to get it to set flat, so I could...help a little.
