"A spell designed to draw forth only the most honourable and righteous heroes." [He reads the line with eyes downcast, before looking to the camera. There's amusement in his eyes, and a faint quirk to his mouth.] It's quite a lofty claim, isn't it? I wonder what mettle those of us 'magicdrafted' are made of. In fact, I confess, this is quite ( Read more... )

[And here is Layton contemplating Schneizel's words with his chin in hand.]

Useful indeed and yet it seems that there is more to it than just mere utility. What are these abilities we have been granted truly asking of us? [He smiles.]

Why, what a puzzle before us. Though, I admit I am, for the time being, more interested in indulging you in that chess game. Would you care for a partner?

What does war ask of anyone? [He smiles, but it's sharp and cool, lacking in any real mirth. The subject is hardly a merry one.

His expression brightens at the mention of chess, however, his curiosity piqued. What better way to learn about the people you're now surrounded with, after all?]

It would be a pleasure.

There are various answers to that and most are unpleasant. [Layton meets Schneizel's mirthless smile with a faint smile. He's not one for the philosophy of war. It's not very gentlemanly.]

Marvelous. Shall I introduce myself? [He tips his hat.] Professor Hershel Layton. It's a pleasure to meet a fellow professor, especially one that is teaching such an advanced subject.

Most, indeed. [His expression is sombre once more - but knowing.]

Professor Layton, the pleasure is entirely mine. I am Schneizel el Britannia. [He leaves off the title here - there's little need.] You've been brought here to teach history, correct?

Moral compass is such a subjective matter. I should think that when one choose to take up arms, they would be prepare to accept that moral hardly matters when it comes to doing the right thing. [As sceptical as he is, he is willing to learn to fight according to what's available in this strange world. If what the letter claims to be is true, he's better off prepared than to ends up becoming magical fodder to the enemy.]

I'm interested in joining the class.

[His gaze is rather fixed on the chess piece, he's curious how it seems to move on it's own. Remote control..?]

Some would argue that leaving morals at the wayside in pursuit of 'doing the right thing' would defeat the purpose, however. [From Schneizel's tone, it's impossible to tell which side of the fence he stands on. He finds it interesting, however, that someone would so openly express such.]

Perhaps I will see you there, then. [He smiles, then follows the student's line of sight to the chess pieces.]

Quite fascinating, isn't it? They're rather vicious.

All that matters is the result of such actions. People has done a lot worse in the name of justice and heroic pursuits in humans history. [For Tieria who has been performing armed intervention, justice is the least of his concern. All that's important is achieving Celestial Being's goal in eradicating war and if he has to be the necessary evil to complete it, then so be it.]

Yes, I will look forward to the class.

...How do they move?

[Ah, he found his older brother's post. Schneizel. He looks down as he wants to ask if he really is dead -- perhaps, perhaps, everyone is playing a rather nasty trick on him. He doesn't find the humor in it, but if it is perhaps true, he does not know how he should accept such news ( ... )
