Narcissa walked through the halls, past the Great Hall, and up the stairs, not paying much attention to her surroundings. Instead, her mind was on her peers in the Slytherin common room, wasting their evening drinking and being obnoxiously loud. She had thought about heading to bed, but knew that she would never be able to fall asleep with the party going on. So, here she was, wandering the castle, deciding that rounds (it wasn't her night, but she knew that no teacher would question it) would be a fine story to tell anyone that wondered what she was up to so late at night.
As she took her foot off of the last step and turned a corner, Narcissa came to stop, seeing the back of one of her classmates. "Pardon me for interrupting your nighttime stroll through the castle, but you should be in bed," she said calmly, watching the figure through intense blue eyes in the darkness.
Lucius recognized the voice of the woman behind him, and turned around, a slight smile playing on his lips. He inclined his head to her shadowy form. "Miss Black, I was just completing my rounds... Forgive me, but I didn't think you were scheduled to patrol tonight."
He approached her, drawing his wand and casting lumos under his breath. It bathed them both in pale white light, and cast harsh shadows on the walls around them.
Narcissa stifled a small gasp of surprise and did her best to control the blush in her cheeks. "Mr. Malfoy, I apologize," she said softly, "I didn't recognize you in the dark."
Less than a moment later, Lucius' wand filled the hall with light and allowed her to see him for the first time that evening. "You are correct, I was not scheduled to patrol the castle tonight," she continued. "I suppose you could say I'm volunteering an extra hour of my time to avoid the celebration taking place in the common room."
Lucius smirked, lowering his wand a bit to keep from bothering Narcissa's eyes. "Our housemates can get quite annoying when they drink," he said.
He reached up to straighten his Prefect pin, a nervous warmth creeping up his neck. "It's a slow night for catching students out of bed, but I would welcome your company if you would like to take a stroll with me."
