Book meme, because...well....BOOKS!

1. Favorite childhood book?
"The Secret Garden"

2. What are you reading right now?
"The Bookshop Book"
and I've just purchased a complete series edition of something called Dante Valentine by Lilith Saintcrow, because I loved both names and she appears to be a female Harry Dresden :)
Also I think my current audio book deserves to be listed "Divergent". Bloody awful, but bloody brilliant :D

3. What books do you have on request at the library?
Nothing at the moment, have enough to read for now.

4. Bad book habit?
I guess the fact I'll start reading in a social situation if I'm bored by it and I really don't care what others think of me for doing so (within reason, I do know how to be polite! LOL!)

5. What do you currently have checked out at the library?
Nothing at the moment

6. Do you have an e-reader?
I have a Kindle. I don't understand why people are so against them. Maybe they don't live in Australia where we are taxed so stupidly on books, and that's on the books they even allow IN! I will NEVER willingly change to Amazon Australia because I know I'll get ripped off and completely limited. Also, I'm not rich and eBooks are waaaaay cheaper.

7. Do you prefer to read one book at a time, or several at once?
All the books. AT ALL THE TIMES!

8. Have your reading habits changed since starting a blog?
I've tried a few different books based on recommendations from friends on here I wouldn't have normally picked up.

9. Least favorite book you read this year (so far?)
I can't remember...if a book doesn't grab me right away I don't bother with it; too many books, not enough time for the crap ones.

10. Favorite book you’ve read this year?
Oh....uh....
"The Scorpio Races"
"Fools Assassin"

11. How often do you read out of your comfort zone?
Now and again. But then again I'll read anything so...

12. What is your reading comfort zone?
Fantasy, I especially like urban fantasy, like The Dresden Files and things like that. Love the classical epic fantasy horses-and-swords find-the-magic-belt-buckle types too, ofcourse! I also freaking' LOVE nature type books, especially memoirs and diaries.

13. Can you read on the bus?
Yes.

14. Favorite place to read?
Curled up on the couch with my kitty, a cuppa and possibly something nice to nibble.

15. What is your policy on book lending?
I don't.

16. Do you ever dog-ear books?
Yep, but only my own (hard to do a Kindle, btw)

17. Do you ever write in the margins of your books?
Yep, but only my own

18. Not even with text books?
Not with text books, no.

19. What is your favorite language to read in?
English. I can read Polish but it's really hard for me.

20. What makes you love a book?
Excellent writing that isn't so far up it's own arse it can't even see how far up it's own arse it is. Excellent character development. No weak-weeping-save-me female characters; I love strong, independent female leads! Something a little different from the traditional norm, I love the Pern series, for example, because the dragons were, for once, not the bad guys!

21. What will inspire you to recommend a book?
If it's truly outstanding and I think that particular person will love it.

22. Favorite genre?
Fantasy

23. Genre you rarely read (but wish you did?)
um...nothing really

24. Favorite biography?
Life on Air by David Attenborough.

25. Have you ever read a self-help book?
...why? Do I look like I need it? :D

26. Favorite cookbook?
taste.com.au :D

27. Most inspirational book you’ve read this year (fiction or non-fiction)?
Violin for Dummies :D

28. Favorite reading snack?
cornchips or Toobs

29. Name a case in which hype ruined your reading experience.
I make a serious point of NEVER reading a book that is being hyped. I waited a year before I touched Harry Potter...

30. How often do you agree with critics about a book?
Rarely. How much you enjoy a book is so extremely individualistic and so totally and utterly dependent on what you need/want at the time, I really don't know how anyone can seriously say anyone will experience that book the same way as themselves. For instance, I loathed, hated and despised Jane Eyre although it's a classic and everyone is expected to love it because that's what's "in", but have loved plenty of books the "in" crowd probably would equally despise. You read for your own reasons and experience that book in your own way, and that's how it should be.

31. How do you feel about giving bad/negative reviews?
A book has to REALLY suck balls for me to write a bad review. Otherwise it just gets few stars on Goodreads which is where I live my literary life :D

32. If you could read in a foreign language, which language would you chose?
German, I think. Or Japanese.

33. Most intimidating book you’ve ever read?
No book intimidates me; they lure me, entice me, seduce me...

34. Most intimidating book you’re too nervous to begin?
see above

35. Favorite Poet?
don't particularly like poetry.

36. How many books do you usually have checked out of the library at any given time?
2-3, which is why this year has been weird, never used the library less in my life!

37. How often have you returned a book to the library unread?
Often. If a book is not catching me within a few chapters then...

38. Favorite fictional character?
Harry Dresdan

39. Favorite fictional villain?
I've no idea, actually

40. Books I’m most likely to bring on vacation?
oh, hard one....um.....something urban fantasy,probably :D

41. The longest I’ve gone without reading.
I learned to read when I was 2...so 2 years.

42. Name a book that you could/would not finish.
Lolita, what an absolute abortion of a book.

43. What distracts you easily when you’re reading?
dog with a ball :D Horse snorting into my hair...yes that has happened. I didn't even hear Danny approaching!

44. Favorite film adaptation of a novel?
I LOATHE movie adaptions. They always without fail fuck it up. LOTR is a good example, WTF DID THEY DO TO TOM!!?!?!?! THEY FUCKED UP THE WHOLE FUCKING STORY!!!!!!!!!

45. Most disappointing film adaptation?
Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, all of them sucked big fat hairy balls.

46. The most money I’ve ever spent in the bookstore at one time?
$376, best day of my life :D

47. How often do you skim a book before reading it?
I like to open a book to a random section before deciding to read it; I need to see if the writing is ok :)

48. What would cause you to stop reading a book half-way through?
If it sucked.

49. Do you like to keep your books organized?
Kind of. I keep a series together. But otherwise nah.

50. Do you prefer to keep books or give them away once you’ve read them?
That depends on the book itself. If it's a one-time read then I donate it, if it's really, really good? It stays for life.

51. Are there any books you’ve been avoiding?
"The Rosie Project", I want to read it, but I want to wait for the hype to go away first.

52. Name a book that made you angry.
Lolita. How that huge pile of steaming crap could be called literature is beyond me. I've seen dog shit on my own lawn with more literary integrity.

53. A book you didn’t expect to like but did?
Believe it or not, those stupid Edward and Bella vampire things. Name escapes me. I was DESPERATE for reading material on night shift (you will never understand what that's like until you work night shifts) and a work mate had left the first one on her desk. The story was crap, the writing was craptastic, and I enjoyed every freaking minute of that train wreck :D

54. A book that you expected to like but didn’t?
Anything Agatha Christie. I really tried to like her books, but quite frankly I despise them.

55. Favorite guilt-free, pleasure reading?
YA Fantasy :)

books, meme
