OW LB  little Vin Story

I'm looking for a LB type story set in  the Old West.  Vin is the only child everyone else is their regular age.  I just remember bits and pieces.  There was a wagon, and vin would slip out.  He was dirty and hungry. and i think maybe vin stole some bread.     I sort of remember Chris getting Vin some overalls and shoes.
