Crisis and then better.

I got dad all moved to assisted living yesterday and was settling in to cozy up and faff around as it was damp and rainy outside when the nursing home called, "Oops, we forgot to send his walker!" (This is a specially designed walker made to train him to use both his legs again.) "Can you come pick it up today? The answer was "No." As in "no, I am ( Read more... )

HtB says it's good that they took him to the ER (although it was a pain). Unless it's a really unusual nursing home, they don't have the facilities to do a urine test there, and the doctor would have to have the test results in order to prescribe the antibiotic. So even though the nurse was 99% sure it was a UTI, your dad would still have had to go to the ER to get diagnosed.

The medicalert bracelet is a great idea, and I hope you get some good sleep tonight!

I agree that he needed to go to the ER as he was really sick - too out of it to eat lunch, which at first was attributed to getting too much Seroquel. Now I know it was a UTI. I told them that next time they can take him in to emergency, and have my full permission so they don't have to wake me up.

And between the packet with his ID and Kaiser card AND the Medic-Alert medallion there will be NO NO NO excuse for Kaiser to call me at 3 AM, which is the thing I really want to avoid.

I'm still hoping that his PC doctor will agree to have a just-in-case backup of Cipro so that it could possibly forestall another visit.

Glad to hear it all turned out okay, but damn. Hope things start to calm down on your end.

That's what I do with Anastasia - mix her kitty crack in with the good food. It IS like hiding veggies in pasta sauce!

And this is very true about it being easier for him to be sick there than at the house. (Yet another reason to say "NO!" to moving back home.) I gave the caregivers the little packet consisting of his Kaiser card, his ID, and some folding money, for any last-minute trip the next time. That will make it easier for them. I also told them I was getting him a Medic Alert medallion. They seemed very happy.

I can do 8 AM much better than midnight. I've trained myself to be a morning lark due to all the jobs I've had requiring that.
