The Fifty-Two...

I used to read a lot on the way into work. My commute is about an hour and a half each way so I’ve got plenty of time. However what with the PSP I spend too much time playing games and not actually reading. Ipod too ! I spend so much time listening to audio's, which although good (sometimes excellent), aren't always as satisfying as a good read.

Might I suggest the Abersytwyth novels by Malcolm Pryce and The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.
Both are detective novels to some extent but have obscure settings.

I have read all the Abersytwyth ones ! :) I can't wait for the next one but is not out for a very long time

I found the third Butcher bit a bit lacking so dropped it but I should pick them up again as aparrently they get really really good on book 4 onwards.

Oh yes, Dresden gets better as it goes along.

Glad you liked "Enigma Ship" j_steven_york February 6 2008, 12:17:40 UTC
So glad you enjoyed our SCE ebook "Enigma Ship." My wife and I did a later installment in the series titled "Spin," and we have a new Star Trek the Next Generation ebook, "A Sea of Troubles" just released.

I've been reading "The Dresden Files" books as well. The concept and tone are great, but I've got some issues with the earlier books in the series. His dialog and characters are great, but his plotting and pacing take a while to develop. The books get progressively better as time goes on though. Just read "White Knight," the latest hardcover, a few weeks ago, and he's mostly got it together. I could pick nits, but it's a very enjoyable read.

Thanks for your commments, I will indeed be getting round to Spin eventually, I'm so far behind on the SCE books. I've just read a big swath of the "A Time To..." series and realy enjoyed them so I'm prolly going to get round to the Slings and Arrows books soon too.

I dropped out of the Dresden's after 3 as I too wasdn't sure about the first few but others have told me how good the later ones are so I might pick them up again.
