This post will totally not be read by those of you with 2 to 3 second attention spans. Which is a whole other subject matter in it's own.

I think the attitude that modern Christianity (or at least the GOP brand of it) is a far cry from what Jesus intended is becoming a blessedly more common one. I've always preferred the Jesus who hung out with lepers, washed the feet of prostitutes, and bodily removed gamblers from the steps of churches to the "great white" cookie cutter Jesus of modern times.

"...portraying capitalism as an ugly phase in the development of human society in which capitalists inevitably and amorally exploit labor by paying the cheapest possible wages to earn the greatest possible profits..."

Uh...no, it's not just you. My husband is a sociology major, and we've spent many a night debating whether Marx's predicted proletariat revolution would ever happen. I say no.

...Incidentally, it's not usually my attention span that causes me to overlook a journal entry but rather how compelling I find the subject matter.

That was more of a dig on this nations attention span as a whole, and more specifically one of my friends that handles mail. He sees each piece of mail between 2 and 3 seconds, and says his attention span is about as long now.

Yes, I had the GOP in mind when I wrote that, but I wanted the post to a greater meaning. The GOP has taken religion down a dark path. I'm not sure if it is the Government that is seeking the power of religion or if it is Religion trying to get government power. Or maybe a bit of both. It's a tool both parties are trying to get, votes and power. Unfortunately Jesus loved helping out the poor and Republicans seem to like self responsibility rather then social safety nets.
