Returning From Idealism to Realism. born_stubborn October 4 2003, 11:35:35 UTC
Ultimately, in order to live his life with some degree of sanity, he has to realize that the world around him exists only in pure chaos (while being unempathetic to him)and that the only control that he can excercise lies within himself. Governments, laws, norms, mores, values, and sanctions are all humankind's attempt to exact control on factors that cannot be fully controlled. This is the ultimate source of the vast majority of human angst, rage, and frustration.

Solution? One must coexist with rather than codepend on, society and the world at around him. This probably isn't reasurring, but no amount of complaining and retaliation we do will change how the elite handle themselves. Rather, one must look within himself and exercise the control necessary to maintain his own sanity. Perhaps you have your peace because you realize this. Perhaps I am wrong.

I do realize this, and I think my father realizes it as well. I think of violence not as a means of retaliation, but as a simple natural consequence of social instability. When people don't feel secure, they isolate themselves and become combative. The elite would do well to realize that social dissociation poses a greater threat to their welfare than even the fundamentally unsustainable economics of Wall Street. They can learn this the easy way, by doing as I say, or the hard way, like the French did in 1789. It's inevitable. I'm not trying to be the one to set it off, but if it happens during my lifetime I'm definitely going to participate. There are a few heads I'll enjoy taking.

I'll be throwing my share of maltov cocktails as well.

Actually, I take the maltov cocktail comment back. What America really needs is an intellectual, rather than a violent, revolution. We need a departure from tradition conservative versus liberal thinking. We need true progressives in power that can't be bought by monied corporations. Our main problem is that the progressives that can be seizing power are too busy sitting around complaining instead of acting, or threatening barbaric violence aginst a regime that is already needlessly violent enough. Violent revolution will only lead us to another oppressive system operated by the elite.

So, rather than France in 1789, lets think of Europe coming out of the Dark Ages. Let's repeat the Renaissance, rather than the French Revolution.
