I'm too lazy to post this in my own journal, so I'll just comment here. And that execution thing sounds really interesting, actually.
The nearest book to me is Pablo Neruda's translated 100 Love Sonnets. Text follows as directed:
But I tossed--ha! into their eyes!--the dazzling lances
of our love, piercing your heart and mine.
I gathered the jasmine your footsteps left behind.
I got lost in the night, without the light
of your eyelids, and when the night surrounded me
I was born again: I was the owner of my own darkness.

It is. It covers everything from Axe to Twenty-four Cuts - all the famous execution methods along with some lesser known, really horrible ones. The author is a former Yeoman Warder at the Tower of London.
