Portland is so beautiful. Right now it's just impossible to ignore, spring is spectacular. The trees are flowering and starting to poke out gold-green leaves. The mountains are out, they keep surprising me because they're so pastel-close to the colors of the sky. Biking home from Shabbat Seder last night the air was soft and magnolia-cherry-

Lovelier than Prague... no, probably not. Absence of a huge brooding castle on a hill is big points off. Plus there's the thousand-year age difference. Prague looks like it wandered whole out of a fairytale and caught a little infestation of modern life, Portland is definitely a new world city. It's older than I expected, though; I was worried I would miss the brick and stone of Baltimore, but Portland has a good bit of that. They do both share the misty watercolory river city feel.
