From time to time I do my makeup on the metro, and I know there are those who consider that uncouth. But the woman accross from me is cutting her nails. (And has been for three stops now- how long does it take?) That crosses a line for me.

so, adding stuff--Ok

subtracting--not so good (picking nose, trimming hair, cleaning bellybuttons)

I think that could be a fairly good rule of thumb for public transport.

The noise factor is also important - if I can ignore something just by not looking, I care a lot less. The clippers noise is both loud and distinctive.
