Yeah, losing can be difficult--especially when every team you are playing on is losing. Briscoe kept up a good attitude, though. I just hope the coaches pay more attention to the players next year. The star player I mentioned wanted to transfer to another school with a winning team, but the coaches wouldn't sign the release to let him play without sitting out a year. So, they kept a great player, but he's liable to be resentful. They need to start cultivating the other players' talents and skills

Thanks so much! It was a really horrible time, and yet I feel so very grateful for so many things. I am glad the doc who saw Avalon in the ER was on-duty that day because I know some other docs may not have looked further. We had already had one doc say she had the flu when her appendix probably ruptured the first time. So, I can't help but feel that particular doc was there for a reason. I'm also grateful that he ordered the ct scan as well as the blood test, since the blood test did not reveal the problem. He said that with an appendix problem, the white blood cell count should have been elevated, but it wasn't. Mason knew two of the other docs there in the ER and they both assured him that the on-call surgeon was GOOD. She was. ^_

Yeah, I thought I was going to cross that line without too much of a struggle this year, but it just wasn't in the cards. In light of what happened, I wasn't even disappointed. My writing has taken a backseat to family matters all year, and I'm all right with that, for the most part. I keep feeling nigglings of guilt for pieces I need to finish, and every now and then a strong yearning for free time to just write, but I know these times with the kids won't last forever and there will be time for writing later. If there is one thing unexpected emergencies are good for, it's for putting things into perspective. I'm just thankful Avalon is here to "Mom! Mom! Mom!" me to death every time I sit down at the computer. ^_^ Now if I could just stop waking up every 1-2 hours to check on her and get back to some real sleep ...
Good Lord, poor Avalon! Sounds like she was in some serious pain and didn't even realize it until it was almost too late :-/ Ugh! What a way to spend your holiday - in the hospital :-/
Here's hoping 2011 isn't quite so full of sickness, LOL!
You said it! I could definitely do without some of the excitement 2010 brought with it. This Thanksgiving was one I will never forget. I'm just so thankful everything she came through it all right.
...just catching up on Eljay so yeah, late comment is late.
All I have to say is WELL DONE WESTERN MEDICINE. GREAT PERFORMANCE ALL AROUND. How can these doctors have their heads up their asses so far that they can't see her appendix has ruptured? And I love how the bloodwork came back normal.
I'm so very very glad she's OK. And I would have slapped the kid that puked in the bathtub. I'm of the toilet/trash can variety, although once I puked in the sink but I was mad drunk. LOL.
I know, right? I'm so angry about that misdiagnosis! The doc was so arrogant, too. He told us, "It's flu season. She has the flu," like we were stupid for even bringing her in. She could have died! If I was a litigious person, I'm sure there's a good lawsuit in it.
Glad to hear I'm not the only one who thought it was off that the boy puked in our bathtub. Frankly, I couldn't believe it. Again, I won't go into detail, but suffice it to say, it was the nastiest mess I've ever seen! (And believe me, with 4 kids, I have cleaned up my fair share of puke messes.)

Congrats on Nano. Glad you were able to accomplish what you wanted to.
Sorry about your daughter. Glad they caught it in time. Not a fun way to spend the holidays.
We spent the holidays at home after I wrecked the car sliding into a curb.
Thanks for the virtual gift.
