I've seen speculation that Don is going to be D B Cooper (Don Bert Cooper?). With Don driving around the midwest and 1971 approaching, I have to say it's looking like a real possibility (though I don't know why he'd want the ransom. The wikipedia identikit pic even looks as if it could be him.

Betty is made of steel, and I think Sally is going to be one hell of a strong woman one day - pity we won't see it.

I've seen that theory popping up a lot lately and I really hope it's not the route they took with Don. It sounds implausible and totally out of character to me. Like you said, why would Don hijack an airplane and ask for ransom? He already has money, more money than this mystery hijacker asked for. He can go anywhere, do whatever he wants. He can disappear and start over without having to terrorize a plane full of people. So, yeah, it makes no sense to me. And it doesn't feel like the kind of thing Matt Weiner would do.

Those are my reservations too. Also, in those days I don't think people needed ID to travel so he could fly under any name he wanted, so why bother hijacking? Besides, he's already assumed another identity and if he wants to start again, it wouldn't be that hard if he withdrew all his money. It's not tied up with McCann like Joan's, is it?

I was really expecting someone at that redneck party to recognise him from Korea.

[looks at your icon] I've been rather expecting Pete and Trudi to get back together as they've been so much friendlier lately, but really didn't expect it to go that far. :-)

Yeah, the Pete and Trudy thing was sweet. Though I called him a liar when he told her she's the only one he's ever loved--as ill-advised as it might have been, he did love Peggy, too.
