The expectation that women have to be sweet and nice and smiling all the time is so annoying. It's such a double standard. When men are standoffish, they're 'brooding' and 'mysterious'. When women are standoffish, they're bitches.
January comes across in interviews as a super reserved and introverted person to me. Yay for female introverts! People tend to think we're bitches, especially when we're good-looking because then they're already on the defensive before they've even met you.
"She's not as approachable as the others" doesn't really sound like a sentence that a kid his age would put together on his own. Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it sounds to me like something he's heard other adults saying about her. Also it seems, given her role, that perhaps getting chummy with the kids might not be the best idea depending upon what her approach to acting is. If she's even a smidge method she's going to want to keep that distance going whether the cameras are rolling or not to make sure that Betty Draper's iciness isn't compromised by January Jones' affection for the child actors around her. It -is- annoying though. When a man is unapproachable and very serious about what he does they say things like "he's a perfectionist" and "very disciplined about his craft." But a woman who does the same is "not nice." Pouty face. Stomp. I call double standard on this too.

Ah yes, because she's "really serious about what she does" and not a charmathon like Jon Hamm, she's a frosty bitch.

But seriously, JJ does seem like an introverted person and that can come off a little cold.
