Another down day.  With bothersome dog.  I lay in bed listening to a Doctor Phil video on narcissists, which was followed by a video on Gabby Petito.  I am confused about two things.  It looked like she had two dads - ?  And how could someone spot her van after she died when Laundrie drove the van back to Florida??  I don't get the timeline.  [PS ( Read more... )

I followed the petito case. Dad and stepdad. Timeline checks out. They spotted the van and are still uncertain if she was dead or alive at that point. That’s when Brian presumably killed her. Then, he drove to Florida and killed himself.

OK, thanks.

I have a hypothesis that divorce / two days might have had something to do w/ her choosing the wrong guy.

At first, my muddled mind kept thinking Brian L. drove back to Wyoming, but no.

Someone who really covered this was https://fxdupprincess.livejournal.com/profile. I never really followed the case until I started watching TV again.

Saw this case today, which reminded me of Gabby P. Terrible - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2741336/

I suspect one of my mother's personalities has strong narcissistic tendencies. This became stronger the last 10 years with the introduction of their "houseguest" whose presence I strongly suspect unbalanced my mother's Disassociative Identity Disorder again and that's a whole other kettle of fish going on.

Still working through Dr. Phil

The Gabby Petito situation is just so tragic.

That's very interesting. I didn't know you had a parent like that. I am wondering, tho, if you are saying that your mother actually has multiple identities? I hope my posts about narcissism are interesting and helpful for you. If not, do not feel obliged to read them ;)))

Covering dissociative disorders would be a fun thing for me to do but that would be a whole other kettle of fish for me, too.

Yes, the Gabby Petito case was tragic and sad. An illustration of how the good often do die young.

Yes, my mom was diagnosed with DID in 2002. She had repressed memories from abuse she suffered from a neighbor as a child. She had a couple of named identities/personalities and she went through years of counseling and some medication to try to integrate them. This lasted for a good 10 years until their "houseguest" moved in. The woman was supposed to only be there for six weeks or so to "get on her feet" and move on. She's now lived with my parents for 10 years, has owned her own house(s!) and still lives with them. The houseguest also has (undiagnosed last I knew) Disassociative Identity Disorder and I strongly suspect this is what started my mom's identities to fracture again instead of being united. I saw a few of them surface and my mother-in-law, who was good friends with my mom before the relationship imploded, noted the identities were named even (one was Eli and somewhat masculine if I remember right ( ... )
