reminds me of a 90's anime called The E.Y.E.S. of Mars (MOTHER in Japan). They posit that (minor spoiler) civilization existed on Mars before Earth and suffered environmental collapse. not the best made anime in the world but it had some really interesting ideas about cosmology and environmentalism. note that many critics panned it for being cheesy and overly moralistic. it's actually what kind of got me more interest in anime tho, and it has stuck with me over the years.

here's a detailed summary, which contains lots of spoilers, and links to the film on youtube. if you intend to watch it, you might want to skip reading about it.
