Ok I'm just astounded. In America with the most infectious cases in the entire world there are that many people around that still don't know?

A lot. I'm taking a positive view and only blaming this town. But there are places like this all over. I see posts from other countries, esp. Canada, and they are taking this very seriously. I did another post which will say more.
