Thank Lord in heaven, the end of the TV meme

So did anyone else watch the pilot of AMC's new series "Rubicon" last night? It was one of those tease pilots where they showed one episode now and the rest will air in...August. Bastards. I liked it a lot although I was distracted by the male lead's rather striking resemblance to Ioan Gruffudd ( Read more... )

Mrs. Landingham! Spike's up there, too, but also Buffy (the second time). But that's just the stuff that I consume obsessively. :^)

You use your analytical mind to assess narrative and characterization, which sounds utterly boring but never, ever is because you are warm and funny and geeky. You like some stuff I don't, and vice versa, but we agree much, much more than we disagree, and what you write always makes me think. Thank you for doing this!

I didn't comment all along because the only shows I knew were the three Star Treks (and I agree with your ranking and still feel a pang of disapointment when I think of Janeway) and Twin Peaks, and some episodes of Sex, Project Runway, West Wing, and Six Feet Under. But its always good to have a go-to list for entertainment, and this meme has provided mine. Betcha either Friday Night Lights (sons will like) or Deadwood (husband will likje) comes with me on vacation when I will have a bunch of tv time.

Mucho gracias!

Ellen

I guess this will really date me, but to me, one of the saddest character deaths was Lt. Colonel Henry Blake on M*A*S*H. I recall that the episode that he died in (the one where he was flying home after earning his points to leave Korea) really grabbed me more than many others. But then again, M*A*S*H was one of my all time favorite shows.

No, I've seen several other people doing this same meme talk about M*A*S*H, Dad. And Col. Blake's death was indeed super sad.

Funny you mention that Rubicon thing......The AMC website and their facebook page got hate-mail bombarded by distraught Breaking Bad fans for their attempt at shoving that sneak-peak down our *ahem* their throats on the emotional season finale.......on Sunday night, the AMC site crashed amid a cloud of torches and pitchforks, but everybody calmed down when they announced BrBa being picked up for a 4th season......

I loved the TV meme, if for no other reason than you have definitely encouraged me to pick up Deadwood. Although it's sad to hear it just stops. Is it a cliffhanger ending? I hope not.

No, it isn't. In fact it's weirdly appropriate in a no-closure kind of way.
