Couldn't agree more about the whole of it... cars and intelligent life on earth. I love that song more than about all of Python's songs. Certainly one of the most hummable. Have a wondrous weekend!

Replacing rear brakes isn't a "big job" as they're not that complicated. However, going all the way to the wheel cylinder (the only part other than the shoes and springs) can get expensive.

They say that sort of thing so you don't get sticker shock when the bill is presented.

I find it all kinds of awesome that you have a chick mechanic. Everywhere I go seems pretty male-dominant, at like, 100%. I stopped in a place that looked like it specialized in restorations (my husband has saved his high school car - a 1962 midnight blue Ford Galaxie - but since he drove it in 1992, well, lets say Christy isn't in the best shape these days.), and when I walked into the garage, the guys working there looked at me like they wanted to pat me on the head.

When I rattled off that we needed someone skilled enough to not only dismantle whatever the hell enginetransmission/dualie exhaust the in-between owner of the car put in it (long, long ass story, which I may post sometime), but also find us a 292 Y-block with a 3 on the tree transmission, but we still have the linkage intact so it's cool, I thought his eyes were going to fall out.

At least he took me seriously enough to give me his boss's card.
