I was thrilled to see this news. This has been one of the most awesome years in recent memory in terms of progress towards equality. And my friend and fellow GSA leader tells me that New Hampshire's gonna be next, so I'm keeping an eye out for more excitement to come in the following days. :)

What happens now is that states pass it, some time goes by, other people see that hey, the sky didn't fall, kids aren't being taken on school field trips to gay weddings, churches aren't losing their tax status, and the straight people keep getting married, and they start wondering what the problem is.

Read and thoroughly enjoyed the news, but we still have to help the people of Maine - there is a movement to have the bill placed before a 'peoples veto' or referendum, and the anti-gay activists (headed by a guy called Michael Heath, who is well-known for his extremist homophobic views) are already mobilising to try to get the required signatures to put it on the ballot in the November elections.

Please check out EqualityMaine at http://equalitymaine.org/ to see how even we out-of-towners can help.

NOTE: The Mormons are getting into this as well as their efforts in Washington State to repeal the recently-expanded Domestic Partnerships. Remember, it was the LDS who dropped $20 million into California to win on Prop H8te.

It's still great news, folks, but the fight's not yet over.
