This evening over on ohnotheydidnt there was one of those bogus lists they sometimes post. This one was Hollywood celebs who are actually really smart! The whole list was pretty dumb but the first entry totally discredited it for me

My SIL and BIL quit vaccinating their kids, mainly after Jenny McCarthy made her big Oprah appearance. They got a lot of bad information from a lot of crazy websites and made the decision without even consulting their pediatrician. They've got four kids. Most of the time I just have to not think about it, because it makes me so angry.

Did you read the interview that Amanda Peet did for Cookie Magazine last year? (Link here.) She's very pro-vaccination and is well-informed on the topic. The article got a lot of coverage because she called parents who don't vaccinate their children parasites (living off the "shield" of other vaccinated children). But she's right.

I had this long, drawn out rant on this topic, completely agreeing with you, but it got eaten. Sufficed to say, I find that book full of crap.

I totally agree. I had an argument with my best friend over the so-called dangers of vaccination. I dont pretend to be an expert, a scientest or an academic - all I know is that my younger sister nearly died of something you can now be vaccinated against. For this reason alone I am all for it.

I can get behind the over-medicating of children, absolutely.

But being anti-vaccine is just flat out ignorance.

I can understand wariness when it comes to big pharma, but vaccines are so basic that I don't get how people can SERIOUSLY extend their crazy hippie attitudes from eye creams and botox shots to PREVENTING DISEASE.
