You know, I just went through the exact same thing. I'm getting my shiny new Florida tag on Friday. But, the process was horrible. I did learn that they give you a temporary tag as long as you have proof of insurance if your tag is fixing to run out. It cost me like 5 bucks. I hope this helps a little.

If OH is like PA with regard to plates, you just get the application from a notary or official and send your choices in. They send you your plate with a postage paid envelope you put your old one into for return.

That was '90, though. Given your previous OH website post, you can likely handle it all electronically.

Oh, the process is asynchronous from registration. You get a new little corner sticker with the new plate.

You can personalise them at any time - I did mine that way.

Nope, I mean BMV. Here in Ohio it's the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, not the Department.
