Had unexpected company tonight! Someone showed up on our doorstep thinking that tonight was the Marc Gunn house concert and was embarrassed and horrified to learn it is scheduled for Feb 5th. But she drove probably 20 or 30 miles or more to get here, so we invited her in. Actually, we forced her in. She was going to turn around and drive right ( Read more... )

Awww... that's awesome that she hung out a bit.

We took a hitchhiker down a pawn store to pawn his chain saw. I'm personally not a huge hitchhiker picker-upper, but there were two of us and it was cold. Alaska has hitchhikers I don't mind picking up. Anyway I was glad we picked him up. He needed a hand. He couldn't drive his truck because his tags were old and he didn't have the money to fix them. He was a veteran and was just barely making it.

Made me feel good.

You are so brave to pick up a hitchhiker with a chainsaw!! That's right out of a horror movie. I remember as a kid my dad picked up hitchhikers all the time, and I loved that about him. I've often *wanted* to pick up hitchhikers because some of them look so in need of aid, but I'm too afraid of robbers or serial killers. (Too much CSI and Criminal Minds on my end.)

Proud of you!

LOL! Well chainsaws are nothing up here. He looked like he might have been on the way to help someone or out to cut some fire wood. He was really well bundled up and was kind of an older guy.

I wouldn't pick anyone up by myself. I'm a girl, I don't wanna die, but with Kenton, sure.

It's interesting because a lot of people hitch up here even during the winter. Kids (20ish) will hitch up to work on the slim lines in summer. (you don't wanna know).. and people pick them up.

I think that's just not something that's normally safe to do anymore. AK is a weird place.

But it made me feel good to help him, but also sad that we risk our lives to do something decent.
