I've found that St Johns Wort can help keep me more even keeled. But don't take it when you're getting ready to conceive. The DHA supplement for nursing mothers is supposed to aid in healthy brain function. I'm on that now with my prenatals (just in preparation for conceiving).
You could go to GNC and ask them about managing depression...there are other things besides St Johns Wort you can take.
You could look into cognitive behavioral therapy...it has a high success rate, it's all about changing the way you think, reversing negative thinking. It's what I'm working on. If you can't afford a therapist, try the book "The Feeling Good Handbook." My dr prescribed it to me. http://www.amazon.com/Feeling-Good-Handbook-David-Burns/dp/0452281326

I also heartily reccomend Cognitive Therapy. It worked wonders for me though I was skeptical at first.
