My Alder, Mark Clear, responded to my email about this. He says it will NOT go before the Council on the 20th as it requires more discussion. He also has concerns about it.

Hopefully he's right--It does still show on the agenda with a note, "RECOMMEND TO COUNCIL TO ADOPT".

I don't even understand why they would need this information for purchasing electronic media. I mean, why should anyone know that I was able to find a copy of "Eegah" on DVD at Half Price Books? I'm not hurting anyone because I was able to find a copy of a DVD that is difficult to find somewhere.

Yeah - what's the reasoning behind this? It seems like nothing more than a waste of money. What are they hoping to find?

Ostensibly, it's so they can track down robbers who are fencing their goods. That difficult-to-find DVD might be the evidence that cracks the case, or something. It's an egregious violation of the constitution, but they're not proposing it just to be evil.

I don't think that your info is recorded if you buy FROM the store. It's when you sell TO the store that they note your info. They want to catch people who are stealing things and then selling them to the stores to make money.

I am not going to be buying anything at any store that requires me to give them an identification number. Bad enough the record my License # when I buy booze at the grocery stores

Not all grocery stores as far as I know, just the Super Target, but I don't get out much...
