Diamonds: She'll pretty much have to.

My sweetheart and I are getting engaged soon, and we'd like to exchange rings. Regardless of whether we end up buying online or in a store, we want to try rings on first to see what suits each of us.

We'd like a place that:

Oh, and FYI, that is totally not a paraiba tourmaline. Or... if it is, the color is really off, and it's a terrible cut.. big window in the center. Just in case you were thinking of buying from that vendor after all. :)

Thanks for the tip! Clearly, I have a lot to learn :-) If I do get anything online, it'd just be a setting. I'd feel weird buying a gemstone I haven't seen in person!

Well... forgive me for being so forward, anyway, but jewelry and gemstones are a serious hobby of mine! You can get some beautiful gemstones online, and some vendors will even do video for you, AND allow you to return it if it's not exactly what you're looking for - and of course have all your money back. And while precision cut gemstones are not what I would call CHEAP, they're way less expensive (mostly) than diamonds ( ... )

Goodman's on State isn't the cheapest on the block, but they helped me pick out a custom-made ring with a ruby as the center stone (had to bring the stone from another dealer). Easy to deal with and very friendly.

Oh, and id didn't brake the bank. I set a budget and they worked within it. I never felt pressured to up-size.

Good luck!

I had a good experience with Chalmers' Jewelers buying wedding bands. The service was pretty good, and they are a local store. Whether they can help you with all your needs, I'm not sure, but my experience was positive.

I just had a friend go to Chalmers and their center stone was a sapphire. I also went there to check out engagement rings, and my choice was between them and Jared. But in the end, the Jared ring was my favorite. But, their service was good.

It was probably Laura, she's been with them forever and she is a total sweetheart.
