I am in complete agreement with you about the upcoming election (though I'm not willing to skullfuck anyone's grandmother, for any reason). Harper is keeping quiet, if not quite secret, that his intentions are to pull a Ronal Reagan/Mike Harris on this country - in other words, to cut taxes - almost entirely for the benefit of the wealthy, of course) so much that it will be "necessary" for the feds to either go into deficit or to cut way back on services. In other words, to make it economically and politically impossible for the government to actually do much besides pay for more police and more jails to keep the victims of its policies under lock and key.

But I digress.

The recent debate about the fight against child pornography is absolutely a farce. Any new laws will in no way diminish that illicit (and already illegal!) trade in flesh. what it will do is place restrictions on artistic lisence and deem anything thought unacceptible ,subversive, dangerous or pornographic illigal! Who will make this decision, do you trust their tastes? Apparently some of the artists to be banned under this action include time honored masters (remember all those naked charubs?) This form of censorship is a page right out of Fascist and Soviet policy and is entirely inefficient at combating any crime. What it will do is make it harder for artists of all kinds to practice their craft. it is an unacceptible and brutal repression that would eco a huge step backwords in canadian law. Not to mention the backlash against child pornography is a stupid herd reaction to something that it finds to painful to understand in the first place (so why not ban it-right
