While in Germany I picked up Walter Moers' Das Labyrinth der Träumenden Bücher. It's quite a disappointment. His earlier novels set in Zamonia feature strange creatures, wild adventures, highly unlikely plot twists, and fascinating wordplay in German. Dwarves are indeed "little earth men." To make things even more confusing, "Meerkatze" is a kind of monkey. Neither word means a mere cat.

Sorry to hear that. I was really looking forward to reading it when the English translation comes out early November. Looks like it may not be worth it.
