I just spent about 5 minutes making 2.5 gallons on detergent. Super easy. And 60 loads will cost about $1.

That is so cool!! Tell us how it works - I'm interested in making some too. :) How hard was it to find the ingredients? They didn't sound like things I've seen in the grocery store (of course, I haven't looked for them, either).

I will be doing my first load tomorrow and will post when I am done. With regard to the ingredients, they were hard to find the first time. But now I see them all over. The Fels-Naptha soap is sometimes in the dish soap section. The Borax is in a green box in the laundry booster section (usually to one side of the detergent). Ditto with the Arm & Hammer Washing Soda is near the Borax. Now that I know Ivory can also be used, I will most likely just use that. I hear the F-N soap works better but the Ivory works.

Next I will tackle dryer sheets.

AWESEOME!! I would love to know if you have a front loader washer as it never really says one way or the other if it is safe?

I do not know about front loads. It is not a foaming soap though so I would assume it is safe. Our washer is an older top load.
