Me too! And I can't help but wonder if even if the dream did fade, did it affect him somehow, maybe subconsciously? Did he visit Sam more? Was he more encouraging with Dean? I've also seen someone wonder if this is what gave John the heads-up regarding the YED, and why he seemed to know so much more than anyone else...

"Maybe it wasn't just Dean's heart's desire but all of ours...": Yeah, it felt very much like that to me too, and for me it was a more powerful "reach out to us" gesture than, say, Ep 200!

Love this drabble, because you show us the exact moment John loses his memory, or does he? He's holding on so hard to (the memory of) his sons (and Mary).

Yes, it really did feel like a gift to fandom! I loved it so much. And it really did make me wonder how much John remembered; maybe this is why he knew so much more about YED than anyone else. But I do love the idea of this affecting him subconsciously. Like maybe he made a different set of choices from this moment forward.

OH MY FEELINGS! Lovely work as always. The middle paragraphs especially were like a shot in my heart. :P

I wish I could have been unspoiled about John's return, too. I get it; JDM has a lot of popularity right now because of The Walking Dead, so I see why they'd want to advertise his guest spot. But oh man, it would have been amazing to get that appearance out of nowhere. (I loved the episode anyway. I keep meaning to write up some thoughts on my journal and not having time! I guess since we have like a month before the next episode, I can do it whenever...)

Yes, you're absolutely right, I guess they had to announce JDM's appearance given his popularity and also the press release for the 300th episode. But I'm with you in wishing it was a total surprise, because how much more awesome would it have been! But saying that, maybe all the emotions would have been too much, I mean it was bad enough knowing John was coming back...
