What a lovely comment - thank you! I really wanted to expand on John's backstory here, and I do hope that it want something like this. I love the idea of John doing something 'normal' for his boys, to give them a moment of boyish joy.

Yes yes - I know some people slag John off for his shitty parenting but I'm of the school that thinks he loved his boys, and while he may have got some things wrong, it was never due to lack of caring. So yay for wrestling fun!

Oh I'm with you; I always thought that John truly believed he was doing what was best for his boys, especially given the circumstances. And while I don't necessarily agree with his methods, I do thing that he loved his boys.

Lovely! You showed the fun, but with the hint of sadness and desperation behind it. This backstory is now headcanon for me!

John is such an interesting character. Some of his parenting choices make me want to slap him, but on the other hand, he got a lot right in very difficult circumstances.

Yes, I find John fascinating. While I don't agree with all the choices and decisions he's made, I think he thought that he was doing what was best for them. He's no saint, and he won't win any awards, but when I think about his shiny eyes when he sees his sons in Shadow, I can't believe that he didn't care and love them.

ohhhh I could go on and on but really, just thank you soooo much for this. I truly believe, that while their live was hard and John was harsh, he loved his boys and I can absolutely see this happening. THANK YOU. This was sad and sweet all at once. Loved it. *hugs*

And yes, I'm with you on John; he's flawed and he's certainly made some harsh decisions, but I can't believe that he didn't care and love his sons.
