I see what you mean. What might be missing here is the bigger sense of purpose, the underlying assumption, the marrow? All the suspense and fear seems to be self-sufficient and not leading somewhere beyond that? Not that I'm sure that I'm making any sense now. :)
Agree about 'The Others'.
