Beautiful and heartbreaking. You write Belle's anguish so vividly! And I love how you chose to have Hook try to comfort her. His monologue is very intriguing, trying to tie up some of the plotholes in his characterization between seasons.

I love that he is finally aware that perhaps he didn't help the situation with Milah and Rumpel. And good catch on his newfound guilt over how he repaid Belle after she had saved his life. I can understand Hook wanting to hurt Rumpel as Rumpel had hurt him, but the problem with that is how it gets an innocent party mixed up in the mess.

Also, I adore that Belle finds her strength as Hook helps her up, and pulls away to stand by herself.

Wonderful little fic, very satisfying even as it is heart-wrenching.
