Brenda weaved through the crowded room. She spotted a guy who smelled like a keg and looked like he was going to ralph and she zigged to avoid him. The kitchen smelled like pot and there was a shrill woman complaining to disinterested friends about everything under the sun.

She slipped out onto the screened in porch and shivered in the chill. “What a waste of time.” She muttered.

Someone cleared their throat. “Sorry, I didn’t want to startle you.”

Brenda furrowed her brow. “I didn’t know anyone was out here… the lights are off.”

“Yeah…” The other woman shrugged. “I was kind of hiding.”

“It’s just… it’s not something…” Sharon sighed. “Just because I feel things doesn’t mean I have to… doesn’t mean… I just…”

Sharon bit the inside of her lip. She huffed, “oh, fuck it.” She cupped Brenda’s cheeks and pulled her into a bruising kiss.
