Settling in

We have been here two weeks now.  The apartment feels like home, except today it took on a smoker's smell.  How do I get rid of that?  Don says it comes through the vents.  I'd closed the windows but had not had the a/c run.  The windows are open again ( Read more... )

Welcome to apartment living. I'm sorry about the cigarette smell -- Debbie and I battled against this quite a bit in our unit. If it is stronger in one area than in another, close the vent over there, either partially or totally. Open the windows when you can, and burn non-scented candles in that area of the apartment. Smoke will cling to fabric (and fake plants), so you may have to spritz your couches from time to time with Febreeze or a similar non-offensive air freshener.

Glad to hear it's becoming home!!!

Thanks for the hint. We had just opened a vent more before the smell. So I closed both vents and Dad put the exhaust fan in the bathroom on. The smell went away. We have such a good location we don't need the a/c.

Sometimes at night the cool breeze means "use a blanket." I like this weather.
