I love the look of the pigeon front blouses, and wondered what was under there to get that silhouette. I have found two undergarments that answer that question!
I know! I cracked up when I read that. What, is that so your "hard-boiled employer" who "thinks you're awful nice" doesn't realize when he accidentally brushes up against your bosom?
I saw a pretty excellent gadget in a turn of the century magazine last night. It was basically a little V shaped metal thing that fit in the front and attached around your waist. You tucked your shirt under it and it clamped it down (around the shirt, somehow... wasn't quite clear on that!), so that you could have that V fronted look for the pigeon breasted shirts without cutting down your skirts. I was thinking it'd be awfully handy to have now! :P
I think it's in the 1901 issue of "Modes and Fabrics" I got last week. I'll try to get a picture of it, but I'm not sure the all consuming wedding dress beast will let me do it any time soon. :(
