Sep 01, 2008 09:22

Here's the hat I made for the black velvet gown I posted about the other week. It is a buckram base covered in black velvet and black bengaline, with a black grosgrain ribbon hat band.

Good morning, Miss Gothic Designer Who Is Featured In This Exhibit!

So am I going to do you proud on Friday night? As one of the designers this exhibit is featuring, I don't want to let you down!! I'm so freaking proud of you!!!

*(don't forget to bring that weird crinoline I gave you so I can wear it with my 1830's gown the following week)

The crinoline... I don't think it will fit in my already stuffed carry-on luggage, so I'll probably need to ship that to you anyway. If it doesn't fit I'll pop it in a box for you tomorrow.

I think we should prop *you* up on display... Surely you just being you merits this! What would your part of the labyrinth be called?

Thank you!

what is black bengaline? Hrm, I'm not the best at fabrics, but it has a fine ribbed texture a lot like grosgrain ribbon. Here is a description I found online: "Bengaline is a synthetic fabric best used for jackets, coats and formalwear. It drapes well and has a beautiful textured surface. It is essentially Moire without the wave pattern."

my sentence about the gathered bit under the brim did not sound enthusiastic enough! I mean that it looks very good, and it is also very interesting as I have not seen that before and it is a great idea.

At first, I thought you didn't like it, so I'm so glad you wrote again! Here's where I learned to do it...

It sounded fine when I wrote it, but then I read it again and it sounded horrible!
That's a good tutorial. oooh, there are all sorts of tutorials on there. I haven't got anywhere on my plan to learn to make hats, because unfortunately I can't do everything at the same time, sigh.... :D
