Random Sims: What have I been up to (sims-wise)?

Dec 31, 2009 14:01

It's no secret that I've pretty much turned by back on my sim stories and all assorted works in progress as of late.  It's not that I hate them it's more that I just don't really CARE like I used to.  Really, it's like I've come full circle with sims in general.  Way back in the day I never made stories or posted pictures or any of that.  I just ( Read more... )

OMG I love it!! And I truly, truly understand the full circle simbation... that is a really good way to describe what happened with me and this game. I do still play also, just to play (the other day I played my Prosperity Island game and let my selfsim have a baby with Worth Less... because it just had to be done) and I love to see random pictures from the game... especially your games because they are so unique lol!!

The girl with a beard made me lol XD And Mother XYZ! Who would have thought she'd produce such adorable offspring?

Fergus <3!!! Nerdlove FTW!! :D

I don't ever really care much about reading sim stories either. I prefer random spam with a bit of chatter attached (kind of like this post).

I thought of your Less family when I started up my new poverty challenge. That was truly a great family you had (talk about unique!).

Sorry, Fergus is into boys (which makes him even more adorable--gay super dork for the WIN!)

Fergus is indeed adorable. And one of my favorite names. If ever I had decided I wanted to have kids, I would have wanted a Fergus and a Seamus.

Mother XYZ is gorgeous (I love that hair), and it only makes sense she'd have lovely offspring. Especially Felix with those blue eyes. I love it when alien babies get human eyes. Andy has Pascal's blue eyes, it's only the second time I have seen that happen in the game.

Wasn't Fergus the name of the younger brother in "Clarissa Explains it All"? It's a great name. Like Angus (one of my personal favorites--though for the "if I ever had kids" I'd name a male Calvin).

XYZ has very severe eyebrows which I worried would taint her offspring. Finnian has them a bit but it's not bad (I was worried they would be Loki Beaker bad). Speaking of Finnian, he had a child with Sam Otto and he's not as exciting as I would have liked. Looks too much like his mother (and Finnian's had some life, getting pregnant by the daughter of Santa Claus then marrying a Big Witch who died shortly after impregnating him again--MUCH drama).

really, who robs people who live in a hovel, I ask you?).

Oh they just Love to rob sims that already have nothing.
One of my prosperity sim families was robbed in their first week.
The only reason they had one full room was because I needed a closed room to keep the twin toddlers in so they wouldn't wake up the whole family. The thief stole their TV and the brand new telescope that I'd bought with the father's promotion money.

Fergus is cute. :) I like him.

I miss your stories. I understand the losing of the creative urge but I always looked forward to one of your updates.

Happy New year, too. :)

That's why I love poverty challenges so much. They start with NOTHING and struggle to get along. It's never dull.

I still have the creative urge (meaning the stories still ramble on in my mind) but I just don't want to commit the time to fleshing them out with the game anymore. I've thought about putting up text only stories but it just doesn't seem the same. To me, sim stories really need in game photos (even if they're just "play as you go" pics and not super storyboarded ones).

There have been a few times I was REALLY tempted to dip back into Peculiar. I'm still very tempted. But it would be less structured then it was. Kind of like "short stories from Peculiar" or something.

Happy New Year to you, too.

(and I always loved your comments on my stuff, it's nice to hear you had fun--I always had fun putting the updates out).

Ooo, short stories sound interesting. :)

I agree with you about prosperity challenges. Every little bit of money they get in the beginning and you have to say, 'okay, what to buy? A new wall? An actual window? Better bed?' And all the while my sims are rolling wants like, 'want new puppy/kitten, want telescope, want better TV, etc.' And it's impossible to give them any 'cause, hey, no monies! silly sims.
My problem now is that I've played at least a whole round ahead of where I'm posting! I need to get caught up somehow.

The "playing ahead" issue is part of what stalled me on my stories. When I play I end up focusing on one family for a while and hatching out herds of kids and the like. For stories that's a nightmare to sync back up to the point the story is at.

BUT, with short stories I could jump around in the time frame. Hmmm. You're giving me ideas!

I think that's what I'm coming to, albeit in much less time than it took you. When I first got my journal I was all about commenting on my favorite legacies as if it were so important to the writer that I had read it. Now I'm getting too lazy and impatient to sit down and read an entry all the way through, though that's partially because of a bad habit I started last fall when I was really busy and had to write down whose entries I still wanted to say something about.

(That's right, too lazy to sit down and read ... there's got to be a better way to say that)

I should get on to post some of my Simsperiments some time. I think I would have fun, and it's been a long time since I just went in and did something other than story-making or photo-shooting.

I really think the "end" of sims2 (ie no more expansions) heralded the "end" of the communities as we knew them. While we still love our games and families and stories the intensity with which we played/wrote/created cc isn't there anymore. Hell, all good things come to an "end" (always in quotes because it's not a real end).

I'm with you on the "too lazy to read" thing too. My reading time is spent with actual books, not reading online (I've never really enjoyed reading from a screen versus reading from the page) no matter what the genre (so I'm not just being elitist against sims stories/fan fic).

I'd love to see some of your casual stuff. That seems to be the way the communities are leaning now. We can still have our sim fun but now have it in a lot more perspective.

I came over to LJ so late that I have never really read your stories, thought I have glanced through some of the older chapters at some point. You are such a great writer and your sims are always so interestin, so some short stories would be nice to read.

Great kids you've got here. My favourite Felix - with the big honker and blue eyes he's quite a unique lookin alien.

"really, who robs people who live in a hovel, I ask you" - oh, yes they do! That happened in my old poverty challenge. She only had a 2x2 square shed for the baby crib, a recliner to sleep on, a date bouquet and a seashell she had dug up. The thief got the bouquet and the shell - the only things he could lay his hands on - and left with a comment about "a great loot". lol

Thank you. My big stories (Nocheat and Peculiar) are so involved it's a daunting task to try to read them now.

I'm really tempted to do some of the writing prompt lists that are around (like at simfic50--I think that's the comm). A short story for each prompt (or a few prompts in each) would fill my desire to write sim stuff but wouldn't have me wallowing in the epic tales I've all but abandoned.

That's why poverty challenges are the best. They always make me laugh by showing me things I never noticed (like thieves stealing date flowers--never knew that was possible). They also remind me that I'm not the best "sim god" out there. I've had more than one poverty founder die before they could even breed. Poverty challenges are humbling.
