Packrat Comics is having a big to do for FREE comic book day so I will be there. I don't know if I will be vending or not, I think I may just want to hang out and snag some free books. OSU Ren Faire is also on the same day, May 2nd. So I should have my fill of geekery for a while. Which reminds me, I need to fill out some forms so I can participate ( Read more... )

I miss Packrat Comics. I mean, I've found a decent comic shop in Knoxville to take care of my monthly "Buffy Season 8" fix and the occasional TPB, but it's strictly a business transaction -- I don't feel like I can stop by and shoot the breeze with the owners about movie adapations or Whedon's latest project or whatever, which I did about once a month at Packrat. (I also felt like I could do that at the Lauighing Ogre, at least while lupisthebold was working there, but not so much since the owners changed.)

I still like Laughing Ogre, but it is not the same since Gib sold it. They are still are really nice store and they carry my books. So I won't complain.

I tend to like stores which have that prestige of "locally owned and operated" - the kind which are all going under because the economy sucks.

Could be worse, I suppose, you could be in a town where your only choices are Wal-mart...and Wal-mart.
