This is a technical tour-de-force, I would agree. And as far as I could follow it, it was wrenching.
But you REALLY have to have seen Momento and liked it, for this to work for you, I think. I watched part of Momento with my daughter and her friend (who were sacked out in my living room one afternoon) before I wandered off, because it is just too much of a mind fuck and depressing for my tastes.
Anyway, I remembered enough of the plot of Momento so that I could follow the story, but it was a close thing.
I agree it's an amazingly powerful story concept, mapped on to the Post-Reichenbach scenario. (I am very skeptical that the fall we see John take at the end of Reichenbach could cause this level of damage, however---but fiction is about suspending disbelief).
All in all: this story is a first-class mindfuck and really powerfully depressing. :-) Poor John.
