So, of course, many of my neighbours - no doubt fuelled by the adrenaline rush of watching the match - were up late (read some of them were UP ALL NIGHT!) I gave up on getting any more sleep about half an hour ago, just after I was woken by the words "we're not bothering anyone" booming up from next door's garden

Every two (I think). But I get your point, it could be worse - The Super Bowl/World Series(?)/Daytona(!?) are annual events that probably generate as much excitement with *some people*.

It's every four, it shares the even years with the olympics though, so it probably feels like it's every two. But yeah, there are a LOT of sporting events, many of which last weeks and weeks when you count the playoffs and whatnot running up to the big event.
