Occupation? Are we at war?

I take it "occupation" is strictly an American way to refer to job? Do you have a word to differentiate between jobs that are temporary or supplementary versus a person's main work or income-earning vocation? I'm curious now.

No 'occupation' means the same thing over here as over there, that was just me being bloody minded.

Although... I'd probably also use 'occupation' in a similar fashion to 'vocation' in a secular environment.
