Word Counting

Dec 22, 2008 14:08

Now, on the face of it, I know this sounds like a really lame thing to be posting about BUT

An update for Open Office appeared the other day and

this ? now *actually* gets counted as one word!

As do hyphenated words.

(It never used to do that before.)

I am sooooooooo happy :D

open office

Isn't it good? :D of course it still sees my favourite punctuation - the dash - as a word (because of the space each side) but that's no biggie *g*

but if you're using the dash as a way of showing interruption:

"Jack, you don't understand-"

"No, I don't."

Would it count it then as an extra word? (like googledoc does?)

"understand -" is 2
"understand-" is 1

Sounds like it's following Word.

I'm quite looking forward to checking out the spreadsheet and database now, I'm crossing my fingers that they might actually *work* together now without me having to jump through hacks...

I run Word on the PC and NeoOffice, an OpenOffice port for the Mac. NeoOffice is a bit wiggy, so I might try OO again now there's a native Mac version.

Although I mostly just use basic text editors, like WriteRoom or the Mac. Or my CodeWeavers filters version of HomeSite for coding. I just don't use a lot of office software in the Mac, simple spreadsheets are about it.

Text and simple spreadsheets are all I normally need.

Though trying to organise alphabetised lists of prompts for consci_fan_mo involved hopping in and out of OOCalc and Base as well as Writer and drove me nuts when it shouldn't have!
