My best friend is going out to the City of Angels for job training in early April.  Her place of employment is paying for her stay out there and she has invited me to go along.  I really want to go.  There are cheap flights from where I live (Sioux Falls, SD) to LAX.  It would be under 200 dollars round trip.  Problem is that she is in training

I just came from a (second) spring break in LA yesterday, and I can tell you that it IS fairly commuter friendly! There are buses, trains, and subways. Granted, you would be limited to the LA area itself during the day but it is HUGE and there is ALWAYS something to do! If there is something in particular you want to visit, some taxi companies offer flat rates to destinations...or if you are at a hotel, they might offer discounted or free shuttles to certain tourist spots.

Rentals aren't that bad either, but DON'T rent from the airport! You're looking at almost doubling the basic rental fee. Also, if it's not required, don't let them talk you into insurance as long as you have your own to cover you/other drivers.

Anywho, my bestie also went to LA a couple years ago and got herself around just fine using public transit, aside from getting to/from LAX.

yep I looked into all that and found it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be so definately going:) Can't wait!! Though it sucks I will be mostly alone as my friend will be in meetings all day but oh well..
